This project was part of a weekly poster challenge. Using pre-defined visual materials, we were tasked with creating a new poster each week throughout the semester. The twist: every poster required a custom-designed headline typography – no fonts allowed.

While the headline and subline stayed the same each week, the subline wasn’t used on every poster.

Playfull Typography

For the headline, I chose the word Lisztomania – a term describing the constant urge to listen to music. I found it fitting to use this same idea as the subline: "the need to listen to music all the time."

Process & Techniques

To experiment with typography, I began by cutting out the word by hand – freeform, without sketching the letters beforehand. Then I crumpled each letter, giving them a physical texture. These were then copied using a scanner, deliberately leaving the lid open to create a distorted light effect.

Digital Refinement

In Photoshop, I arranged the letters and inverted the colors, enhancing the visual impact. In the background, you can spot subtle elements from the provided imagery: the dotted texture comes from a basketball, while the soft yellow arc is actually a distorted banana. The swirling shapes were once a monster truck.

More Experiments

Throughout the process, I explored various lettering styles using different tools and objects to develop unique typographic personalities.

Band Poster Series

At the end of the challenge, five posters were selected and adapted into a fictional band’s tour visuals. The band name and tour title were based on the original headline and subline. We were also given a list of venues and sponsors by our lecturer, which had to be incorporated into the final posters.
