As part of this semester project, I created a new design for the album cover of SIA’s This Is Acting – Deluxe Version, with a special focus on my favorite song, "Bird Set Free."

Wing Study

Since I had never illustrated wings before, I started by studying the anatomy of bird wings. Despite their variety, they all follow the same basic structure. I used this foundation to ensure that the wings in my illustration would feel realistic and believable.

Figure

The figure raises her arms high above her head, opening her chest forward and upward – as if she were dancing. This posture gives her a powerful, expressive presence. Strength and performance are key themes that run through SIA’s songs, and I wanted to capture that visually.

Cover Hintergrund

The background features fluid shapes layered in different colors, forming an abstract interpretation of a cage. These shapes float around the figure and gradually fade out toward the center.

The bright, sharp lines represent stylized lightning bolts – a reference to storms and clouds, which are also recurring motifs in SIA’s music.
